The perks of being a wallflower – Stephen Chbosky

If you feel incidentally in need of something that would make you forget your daily problems and live other ones’ instead so you can cherish the Mighty for what you are actually going through, then this book is exactly what you’re missing.

It is presented as some sort of an epistolary conversation but only with one part of it. This latter is at the same time the main character of the whole story. He’s called Charlie, has 15 years old and is a junior student at a high school. He is part of a family of two siblings and parents. He’s not really getting along with them, neither with the people at his school, which is mainly intensifying the emotional disorder he was caught by since his dearest aunt passed out.

After the several pains and disorders he experienced throughout his life, he plans of getting things back to “normal’ and starting by making some friends. He did indeed. He made acquaintance of two amazing siblings at the stadium, who seemed like a happy couple to him, which made him jealous and then relieved after knowing the truth, because he had an instant crush on the girl.  Their names were Patrick and Sam. There was sort of chemistry between them three after they have started hanging out so much, to the Big Boy club, parks, friends’ parties… which made Charlie feel secure and infinite.

At home, school or especially during parties, considering the fact that he was not gifted by this party spirit everybody had, Charlie would rather be seen sitting and watching his so-called mates do their thing. This made him aware of everybody’s moves and misadventures but he was keeping his mouth shut because these “spotted” people have friendly told him to. And that’s where the naming of a wallflower came from… He was that plant that grows through the walls of your house and knows all the dangerous details of your life without you ever noticing it.

It was a real blast reading that book. Not only it can transmit you the pain and all the emotions Charlie feels along his misadventures, but this book has also the magic of bringing out the inner child within you. It’s not especially on top of the books I ever read but this one brings you to a stage where you can clearly witness the importance of friends, family and good-living, but most importantly, to assume your choices and never live for someone because people eventually may leave.

I wish you a very good read mates! 😀
